SAINT THOMAS BECKET

Saint Thomas Becket was born in London in 1118. He became Archbishop of Canterbury in 1154 and emissary for the king under the reign of Henry II. However, his strict lifestyle and the rigorous way he accomplished with his duties shocked the king. Thus, he fled to France for a time but he returned to Canterbury (England) where he was killed by the King´s men on December 29th., 1170. The Church canonised him in 1173 and his shrine attracted people from all over Europe. This tradition came to an end after Reformation, when his tomb was dismantled.

Supposedly, this is the place where Becket was killed at Canterbury

Cathedral.
